"Being a part of TEACH has given me much needed support ...it makes homeschooling easier. "
Lori S, a homeschool mom of 4
Below is a list of questions that we are frequently asked.
What is a home school co-op?
A co-op provides homeschooling families an opportunity to extend their children's learning experience one day a week. Co-op works by engaging your child in small classes, providing an opportunity to develop friends, while learning social and study skills in a fun group environment. TEACH Blountville is designed to compliment the instruction you provide at home.
Are you and "umbrella school"?
No. TEACH Blountville is a co-op, however, we require you be registered with an umbrella school or your local public school system, to participate in our co-op.
An "umbrella school" does a variety of things and each may vary in services. However, their main purpose is to provide legal legitimacy to a family's home education program in states that require it. It issues report cards and maintains attendance records.
Do I have to participate in co-op as a member of TEACH Blountville?
No. Membership gives you access to field trips and clubs, as well as our yearbook, and a variety of activities throughout the school year. You do have to be a member to participate in the co-op, clubs, and Titan TeamSports.
Do I have to teach to be part of the co-op?
No. In fact, during your first year, we encourage you to assist in the areas you have interest in, to "get your feet wet", and to find out if co-op is right for your family.
Why join TEACH Blountville?
The main reason we are here is to provide support for homeschool families. Each family is unique, with different needs, at different stages in their homeschooling journey. For some, we provide a social network of other families who homeschool, for others we give their family more choices to have access to programs such as co-op, sports and field trips.
We encourage you to access where your family is, and what it needs, then to explore our website and see what we offer. Pray about it and discuss it with your family, and feel free to contact us with further questions...we are here to help you to succeed in your homeschooling goals.
